World War II and the American Indian by Kenneth William Townsend. This book offers a lot of interesting information about American Indian participation I WWII (hence the title). It also offers a great deal of information about the twisted workings of the Bureau of Indian Affairs at that time and is unique in that is includes first person accounts that offer Native perspectives. The book does capture the great irony that American Indians were expected to serve a country that did value them as full citizens. I recommend this book for anyone looking to fill in the gaps that their American or World history textbooks left gaping. Jenny, SPPS, 4/08
