| | | | October Workshop: The Karen Community in Minnesota 10/21/2008 4:30 PM - 10/21/2008 7:00 PM This year, the Multicultural Resource Center (MRC) will continue to offer monthly, evening staff development workshops focusing on a variety of issues and highlighting resources available at the MRC to support teaching and learning in this area. Staff development at the MRC is intended to provide a window in to the experience of another and a mirror to one’s own experiences. The philosophy behind the workshops is that through developing a better understanding of themselves and their communities, participants will use this information in interacting with students and families who have different experiences from them. Staff who have been exposed to multiple understandings are better able to represent this pluralism in their teaching styles and curriculum.
These classes are free and open to staff in SPPS and other EMID member districts. All workshops are at the MRC from 4:30 until 7 pm. A light supper and clock hours will be available. To register for these workshops, complete the attached registration form and mail or fax to the MRC by the Friday before the workshop or register online at http://mrc.spps.org. There are a limited number of spaces for each workshop. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Visit our website to learn about other exciting staff development opportunities through the MRC.
The Karen community is one of the fastest growing ones in the Twin Cities. Come learn more about their culture and history and how to support your Karen students and families.
